Retracting bid
Why can I not retract bids with ample time left on items? I am only given option of contacting seller directly to retract bids.

Why can I not retract bids with ample time left on items? I am only given option of contacting seller directly to retract bids.

·2 years agoBecause once you place a bid it affects the auction going forward. Your bid caused the minimum bid amount to go up, which causes those who were willing to pay the old minimum bid amount but not the new one to pass the auction by (not bid, not put it on their Watch List to bid on it later). Retractions also cause problems with the outbid bidder suddenly finding s/he is winning again (and eBay does a poor job of warning that s/he is responsible for paying even if outbid). So there are only 2 valid reasons under eBay rules for a bidder to retract his/her bids: The seller added to the listing language that affects the nature of the item as described, or to correct a typo in entering the bid amount.
Why can't you just wait until you are sure before you bid?
