Restricted selling help
Summary: thriftcityco seeks advice on overcoming a long-standing selling restriction on their eBay account, which was imposed due to seller performance issues over five years ago. They have been inactive since facing personal circumstances and are now looking to return to the platform for reselling, partly to support community causes. mr_lincoln advises that the nature of the restriction—whether permanent or not—is crucial in determining next steps. They suggest checking the Seller Dashboard, though thriftcityco cannot access it due to the restriction. The discussion focuses on the possibility of having the account reviewed and the potential for reinstatement.
Hello everyone,
I'm looking for guidance from experienced sellers or mentors regarding a selling restriction on my eBay account.
My account was restricted due to seller performance issues more than five years ago. I have not sold on eBay since that time, and I am now interested in returning to the platform and rebuilding my business. I recently contacted customer support and was advised that the restriction cannot be removed, but I have had a previous restriction lifted in the past.
Has anyone successfully had a long-standing selling restriction reviewed or removed? What steps did you take? Would it be worthwhile to request a formal account review, and how can I find out the specific seller performance issue or policy that caused the restriction?
I'm willing to comply with all current eBay requirements and complete any necessary verification or reinstatement steps.
Thank you for any advice or insights you can share. I appreciate your help.
Best regards, Erica

A lot depends on WHAT the restriction was in the first place? If it was permanent suspension then you may as well look for other places to sell online.
Time alone does not change the status of lesser restrictions and again, depending on what it was you may be limited on how much you can list until you get your account re-established.
Here is a link to your Seller Dashboard, what level is your account showing?
-Below standard
-Above Standard
-Top rated
If your account is Below standard and you are allowed to list items you basically have to sell your way out of it and they apply an additional 6% fee on all of your sales. If this is the case you need to sell regularly and offering low cost items that folks want will help in that regard.

OP2 weeks agoThank you for taking the time to respond.Unfortunately, I'm unable to view my Seller Dashboard because my account is under a selling restriction, which is why I'm trying to better understand the status of my account. I've recently submitted a request for a formal review and asked eBay to provide the specific seller performance metrics, policy violations, or account concerns that resulted in Restriction 181.My account was originally opened in 2015, and during the time I was actively selling, I maintained strong seller performance. Shortly after that period, I experienced the loss of my sister and stepped away from reselling altogether. Rather than continuing to sell while dealing with personal circumstances, I stopped using the platform entirely and have been inactive for more than five years.I'm now hoping to return to eBay, not only because I enjoy reselling, but also because I use thrifting and resale activities to help support local community causes, including donations to food banks. My goal is to understand exactly what led to the restriction and whether there is a path toward reinstatement.Have you seen cases where a long-inactive account under Restriction 181 was successfully reviewed or reinstated after a seller requested a formal account review?Thank you again for your insight and guidance.
