< How do you know what someone’s reserve is when placing a bid >
You ask the seller. The smart ones will tell you ... no, wait a minute ... the smart ones don't use a Reserve in the first place. The smart ones don't pay the money for a Reserve ... they simply launch their auction with an opening bid the same amount that they would have set as the Reserve. It does the same thing except it doesn't cost anything.
But it doesn't matter. Bid what you want to bid. If your bid meets the Reserve, fine. If it doesn't meet the Reserve, that's fine too ... the seller wants too much, more than you want to pay, so you find another seller.
