I was not aware of the reserve fee. I was wondering if I remove the reserve do I still have to pay the fee?

Placing a reserve fee means your listing is an auction. You cannot make substantial changes to an auction listing while it is active. You can make small changes in an active auction like correcting a typo in the Item Description but you can't change the starting price or postage requirement -- or remove the reserve price.
You will have to pay the reserve fee whether the item sells or not.
That is why many experienced eBay sellers will try to discourage others from placing reserve prices on their auction listings.
