required to buy return label, but shipping cost exceeds product cost
spent $50 on a pair of board shorts, do not fit so returning, seller accepted.
there is no eBay-provided return label and return details instruct me to "Buy a return label from your preferred shipping carrier."
USPS (online), FedEx (online), and UPS (in store) all quotes $80+ to ship from me (U.S.) to seller in Canada.
obviously it is unreasonable to pay for shipping when cost to ship far exceeds what I originally paid. (how can sellers ship with reasonable costs but buyer shipping back with very high costs )
eBay help articles do not provide much insight and their AI chat bot is even less helpful. also could not find a "contact eBay for help directly" link.
any insights/suggestions/recommendations from the community?

Mentor2 years agoIf the seller has a No Returns policy, Doesn't Fit is considers buyer's remorse, and the seller can decline the return, or accept the return but the buyer pays return shipping. That item can't weigh more than 2 pounds. Did you select
First-Class Package International Service
That shows me $24.80 from USA to Canada.

OP2 years agoThe product weighs less then 1 pound and I tried USPS again - don't see an option for First-Class Package International Service. Using exact sender and destination addresses, I am only given the option of Priority Mail International $40 and Priority Mail Express International $55. Both exceed the cost of the product/return.
I am unsure of return policy however everything indicates I am within the seller's return policy - eBay let me trigger return and seller accepted. I also contacted seller first and while she has been responsive providing required shipping info, she has not been able to help me get to a reasonable return shipping cost, or indicate I cannot make a return. Looking at the seller's page, I do not see any mention of return policy one way or another.
Clarification on my original purchase cost (CAD to USD) ... product cost $27, shipping cost $8. It's fair to expect return shipping costs to be the same or maybe a little more since I'm sure eBay makes it easier for sellers. But the prices I'm seeing to return ship back are far beyond what I paid to ship it to me AND beyond the price of the product/return value. Maybe this is an deterrent customers run into once before deciding to avoid certain eBay purchases (faulting the system, not the seller).
I'll consider the possibility of returns and return shipping cost before any eBay purchases going forward.
Sincerely, thank you for help.
