requesting an invoice from the seller to combine shipping cost

may I have information on how to properly request an invoice so that combined shipping can be done? i dont see that it can be done at checkout, and paying individual shipping for even small items from the same seller at the same time is unfair.

Ebay Help info answers on this issue are unhelpful.

If the seller offers combined shipping, put the items in your cart and you will see a button 'request total from seller'. If the button isn't there, the seller does not have combined shipping turned on.

If they are auctions, message the seller and ask him to send you a combined invoice.
