Request for eBay Intervention Regarding Unresponsive Seller and Pending Cancellation
Dear eBay Customer Support,
I am writing to request assistance regarding an unresolved order issue that is becoming increasingly concerning.
On May 13, 2026, I purchased the following item on eBay:
E. Howard pocket watch in PERFECT working order
Order number: 05-14642-72705
Seller: 1949toma
Total paid: $528.94
Shortly after the purchase, the seller informed me that the watch could not be found and therefore could not be shipped to me. Because of this, I immediately submitted a cancellation request through eBay and also contacted the seller directly through messages.
However, despite more than two days having passed, the seller has still not responded to or confirmed the cancellation request. As a result, my payment remains pending and inaccessible.
Due to the seller’s lack of response and the delay in processing the refund after admitting the item was unavailable, I have become increasingly concerned about the safety of my funds. I have already reported the matter through PayPal as well, but I am still waiting for a resolution and the payment has not yet been returned.
I respectfully request that eBay step in to review this case, cancel the order officially, and ensure that my payment is refunded as soon as possible.
Thank you for your attention and assistance.
Best regards,
G

EBay has a 30-day Money Back Guarantee for Buyer Purchase Protection. If you go to the Order Details for this transaction, you should see the estimated delivery date. The normal process is once it is one day past that date, you can open an Item Not Received refund request on eBay. The Seller is required to respond.
However, if you filed a dispute on PayPal, that voids your Protection with the Money Back Guarantee.
It will now be up to PayPal to make a decision regarding your dispute.

OP4 months agoThank you for your reply and explanation. I appreciate your time.
However, it feels extremely unreasonable that my funds could remain frozen for 30 days simply to recover money that already belongs to me from a seller who has already admitted they cannot deliver the item. During this time, the person forced to endure the financial limitation, stress, and uncertainty is me — an innocent buyer who acted in good faith.
I understand that eBay may have technical or procedural reasons for using this system, and I respect that these protections are designed to prevent abuse. But in this situation, the seller has already stated that the item cannot be found and therefore cannot be shipped. Realistically, this watch is never going to arrive, whether I wait 30 days or 100 days.
What I am asking for is simply fairness and a reasonable resolution. I paid promptly, followed the correct process, and requested cancellation immediately after the seller admitted the item was unavailable. I hope the platform can consider the buyer’s position more carefully in cases like this.

I completely understand your concerns.
When a Buyer requests to cancel, the Seller has the option to decline. The Buyer's next step then, is to open that Item Not Received request on eBay when it is past the delivery date.
Once that is done, the Seller has three business days to respond with either a valid tracking number showing it's in transit or a full refund. But that refund request needs to be opened on eBay to start that refund process and for eBay to protect you.
Hopefully PayPal can resolve this quickly for you and process your refund.
I'm sorry you have to deal with this.
