Request for defect removal
Summary: triplebarchery is seeking help to address several cancellation defects on their eBay account that resulted from following incorrect guidance from an eBay representative. They are concerned about the increased fees due to their Below Standard status, which makes it financially unfeasible to sell enough items to recover. They request the removal of defects and an adjustment of their seller level. lisa5768 responds, noting that the forum is not monitored by eBay and suggests that selling items that weren't in stock would have led to defects regardless. They emphasize the need to raise the seller level through increased sales.
Dear eBay Seller Performance Team,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to respectfully request a review and removal of several cancellation defects on my account, as well as a correction to my current seller level.
During a previous support interaction, I was instructed by an eBay agent to select “Seller asked to cancel” when an item was out of stock. I followed the guidance I was given, but I have since learned that this was incorrect and that these cancellations were counted as seller‑caused defects. In a recent conversation with support, the agent confirmed that four of these cancellations were submitted without any buyer message requesting cancellation, and that I was given incorrect instructions by an eBay representative.
These defects have placed my account in Below Standard status, resulting in significantly increased final value fees. I have been an eBay account holder for over 20 years, and during that time I have built a record of more than 1,000 positive interactions with members. I take pride in maintaining excellent service, and these defects do not reflect my actual performance—they were the result of following incorrect guidance.
At the current fee structure, I cannot afford to sell the additional 85 items required to bring my account back to Standard status. The increased fees make it financially impossible to reach the threshold. I do not want to cancel my account and start over, especially after investing more than two decades into building a strong reputation and history on eBay.
I respectfully request:
Removal of the four cancellation defects caused by incorrect agent guidance.
Manual correction of my seller level so that my account reflects my true performance.
A review to ensure future evaluations are based on accurate information.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I truly value my relationship with eBay and hope this matter can be resolved promptly.
Is there a way to send my letter to an ebay email address? I will basically have to cancel my account if this is not removed. I did nothing wrong, just selected the wrong reason for cancellation? There is no way I could afford to sell 85 more items at the current fee structure to get my account back below the 2% threshold. I would have to lose money on 85 items to do that and I am not a wealthy person. Thanks for your help

No one from eBay is on this forum, this is a peer to peer community of buyers and sellers.
eBay will not remove your defects, you sold items you did not have.
Had you used the correct reason when you canceled (out of stock) you would still have the same defects. Instead you attempted to get out of them by choosing a false reason and got caught, so eBay corrected the reason for cancelling to what it should have been in the first place.
Unfortunately phone support does not always give correct advice as you have found out. You will need to do what it takes to raise your seller level and reduce your fees.

OP1 week agoI did use the correct reason of out of stock and the agent told me to lie and put buyer asked to cancel order. That is unfortunate as I might as well cancel my account.
