Reporting Fraud?
Can anyone advise me on reporting this ebay seller? I bought and paid for an item using Paypal. The total was $35.87. The item was directly shipped from McMaster-Carr. I received a call, an email, and a printed invoice from McMaster-Carr regarding a problem with my credit card, which they wouldn't have because I paid with Paypal. I owe $71.40 for the item I ordered. After talking with McMaster-Carr's fraud department this is what probably happened. I bought the item from the ebay seller and paid for the item with Paypal. The seller ordered the item from McMaster-Carr using my address and a fake credit card number. I contacted the seller to ask why I was receiving a bill for the item I paid him/her for. The response was, "Don't worry I have paid for everything. You don't owe anything." Not true! I would like to report this ebay seller. He/She is scamming! I did receive the item and the seller has been paid. But McMaster-Carr is out $71.40. They told me to keep the item and they would delete what I owe. But why should this company be out $71.40? How can I contact someone at ebay about this? McMaster-Carr was going to contact ebay as well but they do not have the name of the ebay seller. This seller should be shut down!

Mentor1 year agoThis is called "triangulation fraud", and it can be difficult to deal with because each party only has a small piece of the puzzle, and unless all parties involved actively cooperate the scammer often gets away with it.

You may be able to avoid triangulation fraud by avoiding new, low-feedback sellers that appear to be drop shipping, particularly if they are offering deals that are cheaper than wholesalers or retail suppliers like Amazon or McMaster.
