Replicas on eBay
I don’t understand eBay’s policies on selling replicas. I have a high quality Rolex replica that I tried to list in eBay, stating very clearly that it was a replica. They pulled it within a few hours. Now what I don’t understand is that they allow replicas of guns, paintings by famous artists, cars, etc. Why do they draw the line on watches but not the other many items that are clearly fake but don’t state it. Look at Edward Hopper signed paintings and you’ll see what I mean. eBay is run by a bunch of jerks!

OP1 year agoOK but how about replica guns? First they are fake but worse they can be used in the wrong way. How does eBay justify that??

Authorized replicas are allowed. Counterfeits are not. eBay pulls listings that violate policy all day long. There are over 2 billion active listings on eBay that change by the minute as new listings are added and items are sold. Algorithms are used to scan for violations, some categories and sellers (who have had listings pulled previously) receive manual review, some items are reported by members using the report link on the listing, some manufacturers scan for violations and report to eBay. Not every item is caught.

Mentor1 year agoeBay's policy is pretty clear: unauthorized replicas are not allowed.

That something is not allowed does not mean that someone won't try to sell one anyway, though.
But just because someone is able to list something does not necessarily mean that it is allowed; it simply may not have been caught or reported... yet.
Edward Hopper may not be around to check whether someone is trying to sell copies of his paintings, but you can bet that Rolex has people checking eBay regularly and demanding that eBay remove any unauthorized counterfeits pronto.

There is a difference between an authorized replica and a counterfeit item. Rolex doesn't authorize replicas. It's illegal (and against eBay policy) to sell counterfeit goods (whether you disclose that information or not). That's why your listing was pulled.

OP1 year agoThen answer me this. Why do you allow clearly couterfeit “signed†paintings, including Picasso and Edward Hopper, among many many others.???

Mentor1 year agoHi @will-nbpt
No one here is allowing or disallowing anything. We are members like yourself.
Picasso's artwork is in the public domain and is copyright free. Hopper's artwork is in the public domain in many countries but not all. You can google more information about this.
