refunds for damaged items
I have a buyer requesting a full refund for an item that took 40 days to deliver. The item arrived damaged. This was clearly out of my control. The buyer already left negative feedback and when I asked ebay to remove, the declined. My return policy clearly states returns accepted if the item is not as described and within 30 days. How am I protected? I don't want to lose the cost of the item. Will ebay cover the cost?

Mentor3 years agoNo, eBay will not cover the cost. You are responsible for the item until delivered to the buyer in the condition listed.
The buyer should open a not as described return, meaning you will either refund without return, or pay to have the item returned to you. He has up to 30 days after the actual receipt date to open a claim. If he misses this window, he can still go to his card issuer and open a dispute there.
You should refund the buyer, then file the insurance claim yourself - insurance protects the seller, not the buyer. Since you will need the buyer's cooperation on the claim, you need to make it right with the buyer quickly.
