    refunds

In Dec. '24 I  purchased something which the PO damaged in shipment! The PPO dithered in making its refund determination and it just recently decided to pay up. Problem: The seller somehow wound up with the refund check! He wants to send a refund by Paypal but needs my paypal info to do it! Neither Paypal nor Ebay (where the item was sold) will let me message him the info he says he needs! Ebay has, in fact, deleted the transaction from my activities list! How do we proceed? How does the seller send me a refund?

The seller should have refunded you back in Dec, then filed the claim himself. I’m sorry that he expected you to file the claim.

Since it is past 90 days, there is no easy way to share contact info.

Since you filed the usps claim, do you have the seller’s name and address? If so, you could send him a letter with your info - he could then send you a check or put the money in your PayPal account.

Something else the seller could check - if he keep copies of orders or shipping labels, he may have your address.

Another option is to take a photo of your contact information … and then attach the photo to an eBay message.

Yes, that could work! Violates policy, but it would be one way around it.

Oops.  I wasn’t aware that it violated policy under these circumstances.  Thanks for the info @wooden_flower.

Well, I don’t think the need to exchange info after 90 days is addressed, but they won’t let you send it in a message. So I think any exchange on eBay would violate policy.

You would think that they would have a way to manage such an exchange 😞

I gave the seller my Email over the phone. Violation of Ebay rules or not. It did get me the refund! Don't know what use the seller can put the email to besides sending me the refund. He can't use it to take any money out of my Paypal account. And after the go-round we've had over this, I doubt he wants to exchange casual emails with me!

I’m glad you were able to contact him.

What eBay is trying to avoid is both you buying direct from the seller, and to keep the seller from spamming you with marketing messages.

I assumed as much. But it would only matter if Ebay WAS monitoring! I'm sure they use AI to monitor. Could their AI read a picture?

I thought about that. But I assumed Ebay would be monitoring that too. Anyway, the seller finally called me and payment was sent. Thanks for your help.

Thank you for your answer. Partly the confusion is the result of the Post office dithering with paying the claim. But the claim was finally paid, BUT, not directly too the seller! It went instead (according to the seller) to a company the seller uses to manage his transactions! That company (again, according to the seller) failed to notify the seller of the refund being received! Anyway, the seller called me and we finally got things worked out and the refund arrived today! Thanks again for your help.
