Rather than returning a damaged item I requested half off what I paid. Does this exclude taxes and shipping?

If the seller agrees to a partial return (which is is not obligated to do), you would have the sales tax refunded based on the amount of the rest of the refund.
If the item is damaged, you're entitled, under eBay's Money Back Guarantee, to a full refund (return shipping paid by the seller). Some sellers don't require a return for something they cannot resell. You may be cutting yourself short. Be sure you attach clear photos of the damaged item and all the packaging (showing damage to the carton if any) so the seller can make an assessment and perhaps file an insurance claim if applicable.

Mentor2 years agoThe seller will most likely refund 50% of the item price, and ebay will refund the appropriate sales tax (not sure how long that will take). Let the seller know a specific $ amount you will accept.
