Refunding Unscanned USPS Package

Question

Item was shipped, but not scanned by USPS. All other items in the seller's mailbox that day were scanned. No scans have shown in one week. Does the buyer need to open a "Have Not Received" dispute before the seller refunds the purchase, in order to protect the seller's ability to recoup the loss if the package is delivered at a later date?

Short answer yes. First: go to USPS website, enter the tracking number and sign up for updates. SOMETIMES the package will "appear" in the system after you do this.

Next have the buyer open an item not received case. HERE is how they do that. You will respond and give refund.

IF you shipped with eBay shipping labels AND the item miraculously is delivered after you refund ebay will refund you. This is done automatically. I've had this happen to me. I was thrilled! HERE is the page with that information. 1. Scroll down past “Protections for all sellers.”

2. Keep going until you reach:

eBay Money Back Guarantee requests

3. Immediately underneath that, find:

If a buyer reports that an item hasn't arrived

4. The second paragraph says:

“Additionally, we’ll protect you if you use an eBay label and the item is delivered to the buyer after you’ve issued a refund.”
