Refunded payment for items purchased and buyer never returned items

I don't accept returns, but I did in this case. I refunded buyer purchase price and they never returned product to me. Unfortunately I refunded her the purchase price before she returned product. She doesn't answer my messages. I've been selling for years and have never encountered this before. Any idea?

@shoredeal You should always get the item back before you refund the buyer.

Once you issue a refund the buyer can no longer access the eBay return label. You could send a return label as a JPG in eBay messages IF the seller seems cooperative, but you said they are not responding.

Once you refund the buyer has no motivation to send the item back

I agree with you about the refund, getting the item back first. I wasn't given a choice when it came through on ebay. Since I don't normally refund people for their mistake (in this case wrong color) I let them know they were responsible for return shipping cost. The refund was done automatically, I didn't have the choice.

I appreciate your help. I have contacted ebay with this issue. Let's see what happens.

You can slow down the refund process by changing your settings>

Turn on the RMA number https://www.ebay.com/rtn/Return/SellerRules

AND make sure that nothing is selected under automated.

Then when a buyer files a return request you can issue an RMA number ( any number you choose) and this also allows you to issue your OWN return shipping label and not use eBay's return label. This can actually save you $ AND it is also insured unlike the eBay return labels.

When using your own carrier, make sure to upload the label and tracking details to the buyerâ€™s return request. For items that have a total cost of $750 or more, signature confirmation is required.

Hereâ€™s how to send your own label from the View return details section:

Select Upload a shipping label and then the upload image icon.
Choose the label you want to send to your buyer.
Select your carrier and enter the tracking number.
