Refunded “lost” item has now been delivered
Summary: jeckad21 shared their experience of refunding a buyer on eBay after a case was opened for a non-delivery, only to later discover the item was delivered. They sought advice on recovering the $85 lost in the transaction. disneyshopper reassured them that eBay might automatically reimburse the amount. comics-scifi-collectibles offered additional advice on seller protection policies and procedural guidance for future cases involving late deliveries.
Hey there - need some advice. An item I sold had a case submitted via eBay due to it not being delivered. Not sure if I acted too fast or did the right/wrong thing but I opted to refund the buyer. The item now shows as case closed. Looking up the tracking # now, it’s showing the item has been delivered. It took a long time but they did get the item. So now they got the item and the money back & I get nothing. I tried to submit a request via the eBay AI chat with no luck. Any advice on what I can do to potentially get some of my almost $85 back?

Mentor6 days ago@jeckad21 You may be eligible for seller protection>>
If you ship on time and refund the buyer when they ask through a INR refund request then you do qualify for Seller Protection if the item finally arrives IF you use an eBay shipping label. See this notice>

If the buyer files an INR case and tracking shows movement then you can ask eBay to give the item more time to arrive.
For future late orders> Filing a missing mail search is helpful many times. If that doesn't work then you file a postal insurance claim.

Mentor1 week agoebay will eventually reimburse your almost $85 that you refunded to the buyer when they filed the case. I do not know how long that will take, or if you need to do anything. I do recall that someone posted that they were reimbursed automatically when it happened to them.
