Refund with no return
I'm trying to figure out how to request a refund with no return. Seller has gifted me the item and has agreed to give me a full refund. How do I do this?

All the seller has to do is refund your payment. It's not necessary for you to open a case. If you have already opened a case, the seller just refunds through the case and that closes it out without a return being necessary.
Your seller should know all of this, but if he doesn't, suggest he come to the Ask a Mentor board, and we'll be happy to help him.

OP5 months agoThank you for the reply and information.
I spoke with a representative of Ebay which told me the same. Said the seller can easily perform a refund on their end but has yet to reply to my message. I sent a screenshot showing that I was infact speaking with Ebay and what was said. What steps can I take if the seller will not respond anymore?

If you already have a case open, go back to it and use the link to ask eBay to step in.
If the item was not as described, here's what to do...
You have up to 30 days from receipt to open a return using the option next to the transaction in your Purchase History. The seller will have 3 business days to provide a prepaid return shipping label or else refund. If he does neither, go back to the case on day 4 and use the option to ask eBay to step in. They will force the refund.

OP5 months agoNo case was open because the Ebay representative said there's no "refund without return" option. Said if the seller agreed to give me the item as a gift and refund my money that all the seller had to do on their end was refund me. The seller has stopped responding to my messages.

Mentor5 months agoThen I'd say the seller is setting you up. Just open a return case and the seller can refund you without return through there, it kind of protects you. This way if seller doesn't respond to case then eBay will make sure you get a refund.

I understand. But since the seller isn't communicating and hasn't refunded, you need to open a return to get your refund. The seller can still refund without requiring the return (if he really meant that in the first place) and if he doesn't respond, then eBay will refund from his account and you keep the item when you ask eBay to step in.
Just follow the instructions I provided if you want your money back.

You don't need to post each answer twice. All the mentors on the thread will see your responses.
Wasn't this a item that was not as described? If it was, then you have selected the wrong return reason. What is the reason for the refund and allowing you to keep the item?
To answer your question though, you can either schedule a pickup by your mail carrier or take the package to the post office if you are required to return the item. If the seller honestly wants to refund without requiring a return, he will just refund after you open the case.
