Refund requested for sale of a bike claiming the brakes were defective
I sold a bike and when I shipped it the brakes worked fine and had all parts/brake pads. The buy is now requesting a refund claiming the brakes are defective, claiming it’s missing parts so it doesn’t work. The parts their claiming are missing is one of the brake pads, but I don’t feel like that makes the brakes defective at all, and offered a partial refund that is well above the cost of brake pads and I actually enough for an entire new brake. The thing is, I know all the brake pads were on the bike, they can be seen in my pictures and also I had to loosen the brake adjustments (not the actual brake pad but the adjustments on the handle bars on the brake levers you pull to engage the brake) in order to take the wheel off, so I could squeeze the tire between the brake pads. So I assume if it were actually missing, it would have had to have gotten lost during shipping (it got they jostled loose and fell off in the box and thrown out with the box) or lost during assembly of the bike. Would I have to issue a refund? In my opinion I don’t feel like this is exactly grounds to say the bike/brake was “damaged or defective†since the brake pads are something that are made to swap out easily and doesn’t actually have anything to do with the brakes being functional (yes, you obviously cannot stop anything with no brake pads, but that doesn’t mean the brake is damaged in anyway and not able to function). The denied my offer of a partial refund for the brake pad and want a full refund. Am I wrong for assuming I shouldn’t have to issue a refund for this?

Ebay wants you to accept the return and send a return label.
Ebay will side with the buyer, if asked to step in. After 3 business days a buyer can do that. Ebay will force the refund and can decide that the buyer doesn't have to return the bike.
