Refund request
Hi All, I need help. I’m a very infrequent seller with little activity. I recently posted 3 Sonos AMPs for sale (after selling one) with this description:
Three (3) Sonos Amps for sale!
I'm selling *THREE* fantastic Sonos Amps for $525 EACH. They powered my entire Sonos sound system with the best sound I could have ever imagined to have in my home. I controlled all of it from my phone.
Also this after right after the product description:
Like new. Paid $699 each. Selling for $525 each!
********
I sold all four right away to three people. One of the people who bought a single amp wants his money back now because he thought he was buying THREE for $525. It’s clearly stated that these are sold separately. Can anyone help me with this?
I can’t seem to decline the refund.
Thank you!

·3 years agoHere is an example of what I would interpret as a multi-quantity listing for a set of two, with multiple sets available. Buyers on mobile devices rarely make it as far as the item description, which is on a separate page for them. Ambiguity is a common problem with new sellers, and this "quantity" issue is a prime example. Work with the buyer on a return and refund promptly when the item has returned.

You listed these items incorrectly. You needed to list each single item you were selling individually, one item per listing with a picture of just 1 amp per listing.
Even though you stated in the description they are sold separately, that is not how they were listed. You need to cancel the transaction with the buyer that thought they were getting multiple amps and issue a refund.
In the future, if you are selling multiple IDENTICAL items, you can choose to list individual items OR you can use the multi-quantity option when listing so the buyers can choose how many items they want.

OP3 years agoThank you. I didn’t do it that way because lots of people want multiples to power their place. Did you see the text about the cost EACH? Wouldn’t you ask the question before buying?

Most buyers go by what the title and pictures show and miss the "fine print" buried in the description.
If you think that buyers want multiples, then you needed to list using the multi quantity format.

Mentor3 years agoHi @rema-9641
You made a common listing error. You need to accept that.
Experienced eBay buyers are used to ‘interpreting’ listings and asking questions … BUT the seller is always held responsible for any ambiguity in the listing.
You will only hurt yourself if you try to avoid accepting the return. At worst, you’ll lose both the item AND the money if the buyer brings eBay into the case.

OP3 years agoHow would I lose the item?

Mentor3 years ago@rema-9641
You would only lose the item if you shipped the item and the buyer filed a RETURN request and you refused to cooperate, forcing Ebay to intervene.

OP3 years agoI didn’t refuse, I just sent all of the supporting info that said EACH twice in the description. There’s no way to miss it.

You'd lose the item because eBay will refund the buyer without asking them to return the item. Your buyer will be told that they can do what they wish with the item. [This is what happens 99.9% of the time when a seller has a 'no return policy.]
You have only 3 business days to handle the return before the buyer can ask eBay to step in. You're simply wasting your time ... and taking a huge risk ... by trying to prove the buyer 'wrong'. Your ONLY 'safe' response to the buyer's return request is to send a prepaid shipping label.
[I don't think I've gotten through to you, but I needed to try ... just so I don't feel too bad when you return in a few days telling us that eBay refunded the buyer and let them keep your expensive item.]
