Refund Question
I recently requested a refund on an item, which the seller agreed, if I paid return postage. I was expecting a refund of what I paid, but instead only received the cost of the item (not the shipping I paid). That means that I ended up getting less money back that I paid to ship the item back. Is that fair/right?

Mentor3 years agoUnless the return was for a not as described reason (damaged, doesn’t work, wrong item, etc), the original shipping is not refunded.
If you had opened a return request, and started to buy the return shipping through eBay, they would have told you not to return, because of the expected refund being less than the return shipping - they would not have provided a return label in this case.

OP3 years agoUnfortunately, this is not an entirely correct answer. I followed the return process and was not allowed to purchase return postage through ebay. And, the chatbot who helped me did not seem to be particularly informed on the return process and never mentioned that my postage would not be refunded. Needless to say, I was very disappointed in the process and the ebay customer support.

Mentor3 years agoWas the seller outside the US? That should be the only case where eBay does not offer a return shipping label - sorry I forgot to ask.
eBay could definitely do a better job on the original shipping issue - the policy says see seller's return policy, but since the return section on the shipping page does not include mention of original shipping, that doesn't help at all.
