Refund Given Without Official Cancellation Notice
Summary: eureka_caveat expressed concerns about an eBay transaction where a seller refunded their money without officially canceling the order. The seller indicated the refund was due to underestimated shipping costs but did not provide a cancellation notice. comics-scifi-collectibles explained that the seller should have canceled the order instead of merely refunding the payment. They advised eureka_caveat to hide the transaction in their purchase history, as it won't affect their account. eureka_caveat is concerned about potential communication from eBay, but comics-scifi-collectibles assured them that eBay wouldn't contact them unless a refund request is filed. eureka_caveat tried to cancel the order themselves but couldn't due to the refund.
Made offer, offer accepted, item bought. Seller then refunded money. Seller/ebay did not officially send cancellation notice of the order through the Ebay system. Seller sent message they sent me a refund because they underestimated their shipping cost. I, the buyer, did not initiate the request for cancellation of the order. The transaction was paid for with an Ebay gift card and was refunded to the gift card.
When I requested an official Ebay cancellation notice from the seller, they said that Ebay is not allowing them to cancel.
I was concerned because this transaction is showing as active in my account. Then I tried to cancel the transaction my self, so that the whole thing could just be finished. But ebay wont let me because it says the money has been refunded.

Mentor1 week ago@eureka_caveat It sounds like the seller issued a refund without canceling the order. They will get a late shipment defect for doing this, which they deserve.
eBay can't make the seller sell the item but you can report them>

Mentor1 week ago@eureka_caveat Thanks for understanding that selling on eBay does have a learning curve.
All you can do unless the seller actually cancels the sale is hide it in your purchase history. It won't count as unpaid or hurt your account.

OP1 week ago · Edited"hide it in your purchase history". So that means I just don't cancel it once the delivery date is past? What if ebay contacts me about the undeilvered item?
comics-scifi-collectibles
Mentor1 week ago@eureka_caveat Buyers can not cancel orders, since you are already refunded the seller can not cancel it either. They should have canceled the sale instead of just refunding.
eBay won't contact you about the undelivered item unless you file a not received refund request case.

OP1 week ago · EditedThanks for explaining. But one more thing. What do you mean buyers can not cancel orders? Under 'other actions' on my order info it shows the option to 'cancel this order'
(I tried this and of course because of the refund they said I couldn't.)
