Refund / Gift Card

Question

I recently returned an item I purchased to the seller - and accepted an EBay gift card for the refund.

I do now see "refund details" that includes some kind of gift card #.

However - when I try to use that gift card at time of purchase (for another item) - I enter the gift card # into the text box, the "apply" button is disabled - and nothing happens if I try to click the "apply" button anyways.

what am I doing wrong? Ive tried to do it via the EBay app on my phone, and on my Windows computer.

I have seem some posts that say that EBay gift cards are effectively a scam.

Has it been at least three days since tracking shows the item was received by the seller? If so and no credit then on the fourth day go back to the return request and ask ebay to step in. Do not cancel or let the case expire without doing this.
