Refund for usps running late
I’ve had an issue with usps being behind across a few orders , I’ve been in communication with a buyer about how it is out of my control on his order .
I shipped the item the day of or after purchase it’s been delayed in my state capital and hasn’t updated since the 21st .
They’ve been understanding , eBay says I have until April 4th until they step in to help , buyer requested a refund as “has not received item†I’m not sure what to do in this situation as I’m a new seller . If I were to refund I’d likely lose my item and my money .
Should I accept the refund or just select the message buyer option and have eBay step in if it’s not delivered . Once again this is a USPS delay nothing to do with me!
Any help/advice would be great
I am considering accepting the refund for the buyer just because of the usps inconvenience however I would like another opinion before I take action ! Thank you !

If the item is not delivered by the case deadline, you should issue the refund yourself. If you ask eBay to step in, they will refund the buyer from your money, give you a defect for an unresolved case, and not refund your fees. You are responsible for the package until delivery, and lost packages come with selling online.
Let the buyer know that you will refund, and ask what they want to do when it is delivered. Do they want to return it? - you will issue a return label - or keep it? - if keep how would they like to repay the refund? This will set the buyer’s expectation to not get the item for free. You need to do this diplomatically, since eBay can not force the buyer to do either.
