Refund for item not available
I listed a lampshade several months ago. Then yesterday (Jan 2026) I got an email that it sold. But I don’t know what happened to the lampshade! I have looked everywhere. I immediately issued a Refund to the buyer and messaged them that the item was lost. The only way I could see to cancel the order was to say it was Out of Stock. Also, the item is no longer an active listing which is the only avenue for deleting the listing, if I am reading the Help section correctly. I refunded the shipping and handling as well as the amount paid for the lampshade, so this is costing me! Do I still need to delete the listing? I should have deleted it when it was active but as I am a newbie to EBay, I didn’t make it a priority. I certainly don’t want anyone else to “purchase†it. Can you delist an item after the auction begins? Once it goes on sale, can you never remove it? Why doesn’t EBay have any way to contact a real person? I am frustrated to be left reading reams of Terms of Agreement, etc. Will this affect my rating since I issued a Refund for the item? How do I take the lampshade off eBay?

You don't need to take the lampshade off eBay. It's no longer an active listing. If you find it within 90 days, you can relist it from the original listing without having to start from scratch.
Because you didn't complete the sale with your buyer, you received a defect on your selling record. Just try not to let it happen again so that your seller rating isn't lowered.
If you have a question that you can't quickly get an answer for from the Help link at the top of any page, just come back here to the mentor board. We can help. That will save you the time and frustration of having to contact eBay unless it's really warranted.

OP8 months agoThank you for answering my question about it not being listed after being “soldâ€. I still have no idea what I did with the lampshade. Only possible culprit is brain fog of being 66. No drug or alcohol here….
