Recovering fees
Summary: ka1tih shared their experience of purchasing a book listed as shipped from the USA, which ended up being sent from India and turned out to be counterfeit. They are now facing import fees and note that the seller's account has been removed from eBay. They seek advice on handling the import fees and mention contacting a relevant US agency. krazzykats suggested filing a return request through the purchase history on eBay.
eBay states that the buyer is responsible for import fees.
A seller allegedly located in the US listed a book for sale that would be shipped from within the USA. I purchased the book and paid with Paypal.
The book was shipped via FedEx from India. The received book is counterfeit, with many pages smudged beyond readability.
I tried to contact the seller, but eBay has already removed their account. FedEx has sent me a notice to pay for import fees.
I did not agree to an import. The product itself is illegal. eBay/Paypal should be capable of reverse charging for the import fees, since the listing and product are fraud.
Does anyone have experience with this? What US agency should I contact?
Thanks!

Mentor1 month agoSimply file a return request through your purchase history. Select the item, then choose “I want to return it” under more actions.

OP1 month agoI did that, but it only wants to refund the item price, not the shipping.
