received a package with different items inside that the one I bought

I purchased an item on eBay for $450 — a moisture meter. When my freight forwarder opened the package in Miami to inspect and document its contents, they found only candy, energy bars, and cereal inside. There was no moisture meter.
I contacted the seller, and they told me that their team is very careful when packing orders and that they have shipping records and documentation showing that the item they sent was the correct one.
What should I do in this situation? If I request a return, I assume eBay will ask me to send back the original item, but obviously I don't have the item I purchased. I only received a package containing completely different items.
What do you recommend I do? Is there a way to speak directly with an eBay representative rather than dealing with an automated system or chatbot?

Mentor1 week agoOpen an "Item not as described" case and when you get the return label send it to your freight forwarder to return the package to the seller. Hopefully your freight forwarder sent you a photo of what was received so it can be uploaded to the case as required.

Mentor1 week agoJust file an item not as described case. Go to your purchase history select the item and not as described. No need to contact anyone, just do it, and return the candy. using the return label.

OP1 week agohello again. I accidentally opened the request under “item not received,” but that is not the correct reason. I did receive a package, but it contained completely different items. The $450 item I purchased was not inside the package. I need this to be handled as “item not as described / wrong item received.” Please help me correct the request without closing it. thank you
