Reason why EBay stole nearly $50 in “fees’â€
reborn babies are HEAVY!! this weighs over 7lbs and in a box opening full of baby clothing and baby accessories it is NOT cheap to ship when they base price OFF OF WEIGHT, I had this priced at $300 + $50 FOR A REASON.. for eBay to quite literally take the amount I’d needed to ship this.. I’ve just gotten screwed financially as I now don’t have a big enough profit to make from this, I may as well of gaven the reborn doll away for free.. originally valued at $500+ and it being at $300 WAS ALREADY A PRICE DROP. It was already something I made low enough for it to still be sustainable for me and now EBay has gone and made it so I’ll likely barely even collect $200 from this.. what an absolute joke. This feels like theft.. such fraud. **bleep** off.. what service fee? Are you shipping it? Had I known I’d of doubled the shipping charge had I known eBay basically steals it from you, last time I’ll ever use eBay I swear to god. Just lost my loyalty in this.. I’ll be sticking to Amazon here on out, they don’t literally steal $50 in service fees.. what a joke.

The selling fees don't differ much between Amazon and eBay. The problem here was in the planning and price setting stage. Looking at the numbers below, you would have been further in the hole had you sold this item on Amazon.
For your category, Amazon charges 15% + $1 in "referral fees", plus additional fees if you want to "advertise" or "promote".
Amazon Referral fees
For your category, eBay charges 13.25% + 30 cents in "final value fees", plus additional fees if you want to "advertise" or "promote".
eBay Final Value fees
Amazon's 15% does not include sales tax. ($300+$50) x 0.15 + 1 = $53.50 Amazon fees
eBay's 13.25% includes sales tax. ($300+$50+$21) x .1325 + .3 = $49.46 eBay fees

·3 years agoThe fee is not based on the shipping you pay, it is based on what the buyer PAYS YOU.
Years ago eBay charged FVFs on the price alone, but far too many sellers avoided paying the fee by selling a $100 item for $1 plus $99 s/h. At the same time they were trying to push "Free Shipping" but sellers who did so were at a disadvantage because the s/h had to be built into the price, so they were paying higher fees than those with separate s/h. So they changed the calculation to the "total price" of price plus s/h actually paid (with an adjustment if the buyer selected an overnight or international shipping option)lowering other fees and the FVF percentage on some categories at the same time.
The time to figure out what the fees will be is before you list, so you can adjust the price to get what you need to net after fees and expenses. If you can't set the price plus s/h (plus likely sales tax based on the buyer's location) to end up with a profit (or acceptable loss, e.g. if you are just trying to get rid of it) after eBay fees and other expenses are deducted, you should consider selling locally (or local pickup on eBay). Some things have just too much bulk and/or weight to sell with shipping for a reasonable price.

Mentor3 years agoI'm not clear on what your issue is. You were charged final value fees in accordance with the fee structure you agreed to when you listed the item. On top of that, you chose to promote the item and entered a percentage for eBay to charge you if the item sold - which they did. There is nothing in your screenshot called a "service fee."
Nothing has anything specific to do with your shipping cost. Final Value Fees are charged on the total amount paid by the buyer (price + shipping + sales tax) as is customary with payment processors - eBay is no different.
As a seller on eBay (and everywhere else in the universe) you need to take into account all your costs of doing business when you set your item pricing.
