Random refunds?
I've been getting partial refunds from people who I bought things from lately. They've all been under a dollar, but I was just wondering what happened?

OP2 years agoSo, the seller said she didn't have any idea why the partial refund was sent. She didn't initiate it, she said Ebay did. Maybe Ebay erroneously overcharged on their 'cut' of the transaction. Who knows...

That is still strange and I have never heard of that before ...

OP2 years agoOne of the sellers who I received a refund from found the answer! The refund actually came from Ebay, and that's the only explanation given. But they did some digging and apparently, Michigan changed how they charge the sales tax. They used to charge the 6% on the whole transaction - item, shipping, etc. Now they only charge 6% on the item price. The law had changed, but Ebay was a little late in implementing the change and I was overcharged. Six months later, Ebay is refunding the affected customers. By the way, the person I spoke with in customer service had no idea about this matter, and were as equally confused about the whole thing.

OP2 years agoNo explanations that I can find. I did contact one of the sellers as to inquire the reason, so we'll see what they say. I'll share here if I hear anything back.

Mentor2 years agoHi @zoe-cat
I send Partial refunds to my customers for Shipping discounts but the amounts are always above $ 2.00.
When a Seller issues a Partial refund they have to select a reason from a pull-down list and can also write a note to the Buyer. Are you seeing any of that on the refunds you are getting?
