Quickbooks disc bought from seller but seller has it registered to their email and they won't change
I bought a Quickbooks hard disc from an ebay seller who stated in their posting that they had uninstalled the software and were not using it so it was a full software. The seller sells tons of Quickbook discs and software and is highly rated so had reason to believe the posting was legitimate.
I was given instructions on how to install and "work around" the error message that it had already been installed before. I successfully installed it in August 2022. Then in January we had an issue with the file and I contacted Quickbooks and they logged into my system and found they were unable to help me because the seller was still registered with their email as the owner of the software registration #. I was unaware this was even a possibility being I was using the disc but the seller had registered this disc to their email (which was fine then) but it is no longer a "full version" as I am not the owner, I have no way to reset passwords and the seller's email is the ONLY email for password reset and recovery.
I did message seller and they assured me they would log in and change their email to mine or reset it somehow. I got that message email a few times in exchange with the seller through Ebay. But they are not resetting it. I did send a report of seller practices to Ebay but advised the seller before I did that I felt I had no other recourse to try and get Ebay involved.
Anyone ever dealt with a Quickbooks software reseller who did not release the ownership/registration and how you were able to get them to do so, or had success with Ebay getting involved or any other ideas? I am not the "admin" so I can enter all my data into Quickbooks but cannot send an accountants file or export the file. So pretty much useless to me as an almost $1000 software purchase. The seller soft 123 is still selling these discs on Ebay today.

Mentor3 years agoIt is way too late for ebay or even the payment processor to help you. So this is between you and the seller. I would think this seller would be racking up bad feedback, if others were having this problem.
You could ask QB about it, but may find it wasn't even legal for the seller to transfer the software to you. If all else fails your only recourse would be small claims court.
You might also go on the QB forums and see if others have reported this problem and/or a way around it.
