Questioning a seller's legitimacy, how to know.
I saw an item on Facebook Marketplace that is almost brand new and priced under $1000 but its worth $4,000. I contacted the person and they sent me this very long detailed message back about how they acquired this item in a divorce, dont need it and just want to be rid of it. They said they contacted ebay and made arrangements with them somehow for shipping it to me for free and I wouldnt have to even pay for it for 5 days so I could be sure I was happy with it. How do I know if this person is trying to scam me?

That is a typical scam, but with a new twist. Normally, we see this as a car-for-sale scam, where the price is too good to be true, and "everything will be handled by eBay," including free shipping, free inspection period, and free returns. The item is "priced low" because the seller no longer wants the item that reminds them of a deceased child, spouse, or ex, and just wants it out of their sight, or because the seller was suddenly transferred and needs to offload everything quickly.
If you can't find the item by going to https://ebay.com, then you are dealing with a scam. Please report the fraudulent listing to Facebook, the site where you found it.
