Question about tax charged on a domestic US shipment
Hello,
I have a question regarding the order total on eBay. I noticed that an additional tax amount of 41.22 USD has been added, bringing the total payment to 453.37 USD.
The shipment is from the USA to a USA address, so I would like to understand why this tax has been applied to the order. Could you please clarify how this amount was calculated? I want to make sure everything is correct before completing the purchase.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Best regards

It would help to know at least the state to which the purchase was shipped.
Five of the 50 United States do not charge sales taxes at all.
For purchases delivered into any of the other 45 states, the eBay buyer pays the sales tax on the price of the item, at the sales tax rate in effect at the zip code of the delivery address. eBay is required to collect that sales tax.
In more than half of those 45 United States with sales taxes, state laws require that buyers also pay sales tax on the shipping price that the buyer pays.

In most cases, eBay collects the tax and sends it to the state tax authority.
eBay is required to collect this tax. It's very similar to buying items at your local store, if you owe tax when purchasing an item in person or online, sales tax is collected and sent to the state.
