Question about a sale
1 week after a typewriter I sold was delivered I contacted my customer to make sure all went well.
His response is below in orange text.
He is kind of saying I inflated the shipping price to make more money.
That is not the case. I charged what eBay calculated.
The order total was 272.75 - Tax was 10.35 - eBay fee was 36.47 - shipping was 141.90
My net was 83.53.
I took many photos and wrote an accurate description. I do not want to mislead customers.
If you can look at the listing you will see what I posted.
I am new and have sold other items where the customers were happy.
How do you handle this?
Thanks,
Steve
I appreciate your inquiring, Steve. Actually, I am quite disappointed. The shipping on a typewriter is typically about $50-60.I have quite a collection. I know some bake in a larger shipping cost on eBay to guarantee the price they want overall. I felt that was the case ok this item, but i expected that the machine would at least be clean and functional. It is quite dirty inside and out. Much time was taken in packing it, but no time was taken to warrant the selling price. To complete the job on bringing this up to speed will put the total cost well over $400. The condition of this unit, as is, puts its value under $100. If you’d accept the return, I would like like to get it back to you. I would much rather paid $350 for a pristine, overhauled safari which are readily available. Thank you again for following up. I imagine you just may not deal with manual typewriters much. Sincerely,Jonathan

This is a perfect example of why to wait for the buyer to contact you.
It looks like your buyer wants to return it. Maybe they will take a partial refund. You'll have to do work with them for a resolution.

OP1 year agoHi,
It's kind of sad when you think you are doing the right thing
and it goes south.
Chalk it up to experience.
I will wait to hear from him.

I'm sorry that happened.
In general, it's best not to follow up with buyers because it opens the door for complaints.
Your listing had "no returns". the buyer has 30 days from delivery to open an "Item Not as Described" case which you'd be required to accept.
I'd probably ignore the reply for a few days before replying.
You had Priority Mail listed as the shipping. If so, shipping probably was very expensive.
Most sellers use "Ground Advantage" from USPS or UPS (or Fedex, but they are my last resort)

I guess "we live and learn".
eBay is more complicated than I thought.
Take care,
