How do you know if an email sent from eBay is official and says action needed? And it wants personal information it's sent to my inbox and In my ebay account and my personal email ?

When eBay sends you a message, it will be addressed to you by full name, it will come from eBay, and it will be in your message folder: "From eBay".
An eBay message will not come from a random username.
eBay won't ask you to copy and paste something into your browser address bar. (That is something scammers do.)

This information helps us keep our markets place safe, providing or confirm that following payout, information date of birth date, social security number or individual tax. ID will only use this information to pay you to verify your identity or for tax. And consumer protection purposes, this information will be encrypted and stored securely. Please make sure your update your account details. By August 29th 2026 to avoid account restrictions and further payout. Delays, once you've made the request updates, we'll verify your information process. Any pending payouts, and you'll be good to go along with having a blue little link that says update account details. You can also view the request in your eBay account on the selling overview page or in your eBay messages. I wrote in the blue little link, but does eBay email messages have a blue link from your personal email and in your inbox on your email, eBay account. I made the mistake of opening the link on my personal email and doing the actions. There and I'm concerned about it.

It's normal for eBay to ask for that information.
I would suggest never clicking a link because it could be a scam.
When I get a message like that from eBay, I go to my eBay account on the website and look at my eBay messages there. I would respond using the messages OR a big banner telling me to update xyz.
To reassure you I suggest
1) Go here: https://accountsettings.ebay.com/profile
(or go to eBay website, click Hi xxxx in the upper left, select account settings, Personal Info or profile)
If you entered your SSN and DOB, that information will be on your profile.
2) Look at your ebay messages for the matching message from ebay
AND/OR
3) use eBay's social media customer service to get assistance. Ask them if you recently got an email like tht and if you entered your information correctly.

Just sent a private message to the page explaining what happened.
It's always best practice to read an email, but go to the website directly to enter the information.
that protects you from phishing.
Still, I suspect it was a valid email.

OP6 months agoThank you for that information. You let me know. Yeah, I made the mistake of not going in to my eBay inbox to respond , instead I was not thinking and completed the request through my personal email account.
I am concerned because it's my s.S n number . Is there blue links on ebay's messages for you to signin to complete the the information they want. Plus when I go to my personal information on my eBay, it'll only show me the last 4 digits of the number. It has an edit button on it. But you can't do anything. It says contact help in contact for them to reveal that I don't know if it's really there. But it shows the last 4 digits.

OP6 months agoSo on that message from ebay, I did give em my nine digit.S s n . When I'm on the site though I can just only see the last 4 digits. I guess my question is, if I'm on my account and I go to help and contact, can the call be transferred to somebody else other than somebody on eBay like a scammer or a hacker?

OP6 months agoPlus mine has the 9 digit area. But it only shows 4 of the digits. I'm not even allowed to view it on my eBay account in my personal information. Just the 4 digits that are cut that are not covered.

This is a security feature.
If you are on your account and contact eBay, you won't be transferred to a scammer.
