Putting account on hold
Is there a way to put your account on hold indefinitely? I'm a sometime seller and don't want to close my account, but don't know when I'll want to put items on eBay to sell. I can't find an answer on line and the telephone number I call is a joke.

You don't need to put your account on hold. Just don't list any items. You can use the account for buying until you decide to start selling again.

The telephone number you call is a fake. eBay does not provide a number for any inbound telephone lines. The only way to talk to a customer service agent is to use the link in the Help pages to request a call, then wait until they call you. The phone numbers you find on the internet that purport to be to eBay are not. They connect you to third parties . . . at best, a pay for assistance site, or at worst, a scammer who tries to finagle your credit card numbers from you.
