purchasing a riding mower with ebay cards?

I am trying to purchase a riding lawn mower through ebay. I am hesitant as the invoice says I can only pay with ebay cards purchased from local vendors (gas stations, grocery stores, etc.). I have purchased machinery from ebay before and was simply able to use my credit card. Why are they asking for gift cards? Am I being scammed?

Yes, you are being scammed.

Ebay gift cards are to be used for payments for purchases made ON the Ebay gift site, they are not to be given for a purchase elsewhere.

This is a common scam, and you are dealing with a criminal who is trying to steal your money.

eBay has nothing to do with listings on other sites. If the item isn't listed on the eBay website and if you don't purchase it through the eBay listing, the transaction has nothing to do with eBay.
