Purchasing a car through eBay Motors

There are so many scammers out there so I'm trying to be careful but I've never used eBay motors before... I received a very official email invoice from eBay Motors but it says I have to go purchase prepaid eBay cards, scratch to expose the #s, take pics then email pics back .... That seems very fishy to me???

You were wise to check here first â€” that's a SCAM.

These are red flags for a SCAM:

Vehicle found on some other website.
The vehicle can not be found on https://ebay.com/motors
Price is too good to be true.
There is urgency due to death, divorce, transfer.
Vehicle is not available for inspection.
False claims that eBay will provide any of these non-existent services:
- broker the sale.
- require prepaid cards as payment.
- escrow/hold the payment.
- warehouse the vehicle.
- ship the vehicle.
- offer a free inspection period.
- provide free delivery or returns.

Please forward this type of scam email as an attachment (so that the email headers are maintained) to car@ebay.com to add to their ongoing investigations. And please report the ad to the site where you found it.

To find a real car on eBay motors, start at this link: https://ebay.com/motors and select "Vehicles" from the left column menu. On eBay, vehicle sales are handled directly between the buyer and the seller, not through eBay. eBay is just the platform (like a newspaper ad) that displays the available items.
