Purchased Stolen / Lost Apple Watch on Ebay
I am attempting to request a refund for an Apple Watch that was purchased through eBay. The device has now been blacklisted by T‑Mobile as lost/stolen due to unpaid financing by the original owner. Because of this, the watch cannot be activated on Metro by T‑Mobile or any carrier that uses the GSMA global blacklist.
When I purchased the watch, it activated normally on Consumer Cellular and worked for over a year. The blacklist must have been applied after my purchase, which likely indicates that the original owner stopped paying the T‑Mobile installment plan or filed a loss/theft claim.
I have documentation showing the original T‑Mobile purchase was financed, which the seller left in the watch packaging that was provided at the time of sale.
This means the device was not eligible for resale and is now permanently blocked from cellular activation. This makes the item not as described and unusable for its intended purpose.
I have the following.
- Metro by T‑Mobile’s refusal to activate the cellular service as the device is reported lost/stolen
- The original T‑Mobile purchase receipt showing the device was on a payment plan at time of sale
- My eBay purchase receipt
- Explanation is that the device only became blacklisted long after purchase.
I am requesting a full refund under the eBay Money Back Guarantee.
I have not been able to navigate the eBay site to properly report this claim. Could anyone advise me on steps that should be taken through eBay and / or other avenues?

Unfortunately, it is much too late for eBay to help - the money back guarantee is for 30 days after receipt.
You could try asking your credit card issuer to open a dispute, but it may be too late for them, too - many limit this to 180 days.

OP9 months agoThank you. Had not considered warranty by credit card benefits. Likely too late -- but will take a quick look.
