Protection for sellers
I shipped an item with tracking. The post office lost it. A claim was filed against me by the buyer and I was made to refund them. The buyer is out nothing , while i am out the item and the money because of something beyond my control.
Here is my issue: I understand buyers have protection but, I thought sellers had protection also. Me having to refund for an item the post office lost, with tracking, doesn't protect the buyer at all. I would love to know the thoughts of other sellers

Yes it does - that's exactly how the buyer is protected. The seller is responsible for getting the item to the buyer in listed condition. If the package you shipped was insured, file an insurance claim online. See this link:

OP2 years agoI meant the seller isn't protected when they send an item with tracking and the post office loses it. The seller is forced to give a full refund and is out the item, while the buyer is out nothing. It just happened to me. So if the post office loses an item, even with tracking supplied, the seller if the one punished. Doesn't seem right!!!

·2 years agoThe seller is the one who chose the carrier and class of service (or made some options that s/he chose available to the buyer). S/he can choose to insure the package (and pass the cost on to the buyer as part of the handling fee or as part of the price) and would be the one to make a claim on that insurance (or the insurance that comes as part of some classes of service if the seller chose one of them, e.g. Priority Mail up to $100 included). The seller packages the item and labels it.
Who would you have bear the cost if you were the buyer or eBay or a neutral third party?

As I mentioned, that's what insurance is for. Some insurance comes with many of the shipping classes of service these days, so if yours does, then file a claim (see the link I provided in my first response).
When you became a member back in 2003, the policy was that if the seller doesn't get the item to the buyer in listed condition, he refunds. That is still the case 21 years later. You agree to eBay policies each time you use eBay.
