Promoted Listing Sales in Waves
Greetings,
I have many products listed using Promoted Listings and I've noticed my sales tend to come in waves. I'll experience several days without any sales, followed by 3–5 sales within just a hour or two. After that, sales go quiet again for several days or even a week.
Does anyone have ideas or insights into why this pattern occurs?
Thanks in advance!

Mentor1 year agoHi @gatstore2010
I abandoned using Promoted Listings Standard (PLS) near the end of 2023 because it stopped performing like it did prior to the changes made in early 2022 when eBay launched Promoted Listings Advanced, changed how Views were counted and magically doubled and tripled their "suggested" ad rates for PLS ...
However, prior to 2022 I would run one 30 day PLS campaign each quarter like clock work. The campaigns performed very well and the results, Impressions, sales, etc were very repeatable and illustrated in the Impressions chart screen shot below (from way back when).
The trend at the time (and again, this was repeatable each quarter) was a jump in activity, impressions and sales at the beginning of the 30 day campaign and then a slow gradual drop in activity each weak but spikes on weekends (when more people were snooping around) and then a small surge at the end before the campaign ended. I consistently averaged 2-3 sales per day during the 30 days. Ad rates used at the time ranged mainly between 5% - 7%. Then after the 2022 changes the average sales per day dropped to between 1 and 1.5 and the only way they would recover to the 2-3 per range was to basically double my ad rates ... that however made selling that was unsustainable so I stopped using PLS.
