Promoted Items RIPOFF
I just sold an item for
$4.25
$15 media mail shipping
$1.58 goes to eBay
The shipping is actually $19.69
Does this seem like a great financial endeavor to any of you?
And if you do not promote, you might as well not post.
Seems like a scam to make a profit off of shipping charges.
And yeah, i know. They tell you what they are doing yada yada yada.
The point remains.
I am LOSING MONEY SELLING ON EBAY.

If you're not factoring in your fees (along with all your costs of selling the item) into the selling price, that is why you are losing money.

OP8 months agoHow do you do that starting with a "suggested" starting bid of .99?
Ebay has a really great thing going for them.

Mentor8 months ago@wsc-201. Always start auctions at a price you will be happy with if you get just one bid. Never use eBay's suggested price or optional upgrades such as reserve price.

OP8 months agoSo you're saying I shouldn't trust the platform eBay is untrustworthy is that what you're telling me I'm doing Commerce on a site that's untrustworthy I mean that's what I'm reading from your statement if that's what you're communicating
And when they even use prior auction results to support their suggestion it's like they're really reinforcing the grift pretty impressive actually

I'm sure you don't follow every suggestion made to you by an algorithm. I don't even look at eBay's suggested pricing.
eBay doesn't benefit from suggesting a $0.99 starting price if the item sells for only $0.99. And neither does the seller. You are responsible for doing your homework and finding out what the value of your item is. And you need to factor your selling costs into the starting price as well. That's what successful sellers do. If you are going to run auctions, you need to start the bidding at the minimum you'd be happy with if you receive only one bid.
You're brand new and you are going to make mistakes as a new seller. Just like a baby taking his first step, he's probably going to fall down. The more homework you do and the more experience you get, the fewer mistakes you'll make.

OP8 months agoI listened to eBay they are the ones that said I should start my bid for that item at 99 cents and it turned out great for them
