processing a refund for a cancelled order
Summary: ssemenzato1502 shared a situation regarding a cancellation on eBay where a buyer requested to cancel an order over a holiday weekend. Due to the delay in processing, ssemenzato1502 found that the funds available were $90 short of the full refund amount. This issue prevents them from providing a full refund without incurring a personal loss, despite nothing being shipped and the item still available for sale. ssemenzato1502 questions why the platform does not allow for a seamless refund process in such cases.
I received an order from a buyer for an item I listed on eBay . The buyer then cancelled the order. I did not see the cancellation request, as it was sent over a holiday weekend. When I finally got to it more than 3 days had lapsed, but of course I agreed to the cancellation as nothing had been shipped. I then tried to cancel the order and process the refund, but no can do!! The funds being held in my account from the buyer are $90 less than the requested refund amount! So it looks like I have to pay the $90 to eBay for the buyer, who cancelled the order, to get their full refund!??!? Why can't I, as a seller, cancel the order and allow the buyer to get their money back? Nothing has shipped. I still have my item for sale, the buyer gets all his money back, and I don't have to pay anything!??!?

Mentor3 weeks agoWhen you file a Cancellation with the reason Buyer Requested, you have to front the amount of the refund. When the buyer's payment clears, then ebay reimburses you.

Most sellers will specify a credit card for seller fees and reimbursements so it doesn't affect their checking account.
