Problem with buyer
I sold an antique lamp with glass shades. It was packed extremity well by FedEx. I paid postage through eBay. Buyer bought on 7/31/24. I didn’t see at the time that they joined “that day†I shipped in less than 24 hrs. The. They send me message it was broken and box crushed. I told them I needed them to send it back in the original box and packing material and that I had insured it. I told them to request refund thru eBay and they would receipt return shipping label. Then no response from the. For over 10 days. I needed PICTs and asked them to send PICTs, no response. I sent daily reminders, no response. I finally called eBay and asked what I child do. eBay customer service told me they would look into it. Buyer never sent PICTs. User never requested refund. By the time they would send it back, I would miss insurance claim time. After they were contacted by eBay they sent me a message saying they sent pictures days ago, which eBay shows they didn’t. The picture from FedEx with package at her door shows no damage to the box. No crushed sides. Then they sent another email today (first response from Aug 1 was after just after mid night last night) then they said they sent pictures on 10th again, then they opened a request for damaged goods. I called eBay back, the guy tells me the other person was wrong and I have to refund this buyer. If I had known they had just joined eBay for that sale, I would have cancelled it. This eBay customer service rep said I have no protections. So I can’t file Insurance claim. They said she doesn’t have to send it back, I have to refund her a couple hundred dollars. I have been selling for 24 years. This is crap.

As usual, the agent was wrong.
If the buyer filed a Return Request, you approve the request and provide the prepaid return shipping label. You refund after you receive the returned item.
In the meantime, you can file a claim if the buyer provided pictures of the broken item and packaging.

OP1 year agoI talked to two agents. I told the buyer to request a refund in 8/1/24 and that I needed it back and he would get a label to return it. He did nothing. He wanted the refund without sending it back or sending pictures. He ignored me every day from 8/1/24 until 3 a, about 24 hours ago. I had already asked eBay for help. They could see the buyer didn’t send pictures as requested, had not filed a refund/return request. So at 3 am he said he sent pictures a week ago. I called eBay back, there is no record of pictures. So today after 16 days, when I told him I was going to miss the window for a refund with insurance and that he didn’t go thru eBay to request a refund and I still needed it back and the pictures. That is when he finally contacted eBay. He said the box was completely crushed. Pictures from FedEx at delivery show the box completely intact. It was professionally packed. I have been shipping china, antiques and breakable collectibles for 24 years and never had anything break. So now I get nothing, he has the antique lamp and they are forcing me to give a refund, with no proof. So getting insurance is a waste of time. He lied. He doesn’t have to prove anything was broken and he ignored my daily messages.
