Problem with automatic relist of an auction item
Summary: dianejritz raises a concern about an issue with the automatic relisting of an auction item. wooden_flower responds, but the content of their discussion is not specified. dianejritz continues the conversation with wooden_flower, yet the details of their exchange remain unspecified. The discussion appears to loop with the two participants responding to each other.
I have always had the option to automatically relist an auction item. That is NOT an option now.
In a chat session I got this response:
"An occasional seller on eBay is a seller type eligible for the automatic relist option, which is limited to new and occasional sellers. This option is not available to other sellers."
So I asked what is the difference between an occasional seller and a seller is, and this was the response:
While the documents do not provide a detailed definition or criteria distinguishing an occasional seller from other sellers, the key difference is that the automatic relist option is only available on listings created by new and occasional sellers, and not for other sellers.
Someone PLEASE tell me **bleep**?
Automatic relist should be available to everyone!

There is a point where you are no longer considered a new or occasional seller - it is not defined in the written policies that we can access. Certainly meeting the requirement to be top rated would be an indication that you are no longer an occasional seller.
Perhaps one tipping point is around 500 items sold - congrats on passing that mark. 😀
Once you are an established seller, there is no way to get the free auto relistings back.

OP4 months agoI read that as well. What I am having a problem with is "it is not defined in the written policies". So, who decides and based on what criteria do you loose the option for free auto relisting? I also feel it is a dis-service to established sellers and somewhat discriminating. I am not sure what difference it makes if any seller has the opportunity to have free auto listings. Maybe someone could explain why it is limited to just new or occasional sellers? A policy that makes no sense and based on no actual criteria.

I'm sure there is defined criteria - it just isn't published. You can be sure that the system manages it, not a human, so there are very defined rules.
I would assume the purpose of the free relistings is to let sellers learn how to sell with the auction format, and to help them get established.
I actually have no opinion on if this is good or bad - it is the way it is structured, just like fees. I just try to help people understand it.

OP4 months agoHi wooden_flower,
Thank-you for your insight on this and for helping the eBay community.
It will be a change for me, old dogs - new tricks! But, I will get through it.
Best wishes,
