Privacy Concerns with Uploading a Photo of My Government ID
I want to sell a CPU, but eBay requires me to upload my government ID. Given the prevalence of data breaches, having had my identity stolen in the past, and having no idea how my ID is protected or how long it is retained, are there any other options for handling payments? Can I redact parts of my government ID (e.g. photo and address) to protect my privacy? Or is this just the new privacy-hating world we live in now?

Mentor11 months agoYou may want to see eBay's User Privacy Notice.
On a desktop or laptop computer, on any eBay page, scroll down to the very bottom.
(I don't use the eBay App, so I'm not sure how to access it that way.)
In the line of Small Print that starts with the copyright date at the far left side, you will see several subjects as hyperlinks, underlined and in blue type.
Locate the word Privacy and click on it. eBay's User Privacy Notice will be shown.

Mentor11 months agoebay now uses Managed Payments to pay sellers. Have you submitted your SSN, driver's license, checking account, bank statement? These items are needed to comply with the government's KYC..Know Your Customer/Client. Once that is done, when the buyer pays and selects his method of payment (Paypal, credit/debit card, ApplePay or GooglePay) the payment goes to Managed Payments. When ebay tells you that the buyer has paid and you need to ship, you ship within your handling time. Meanwhile, MP processes the payment and sends it to the checking account you specified. Your bank then processes the payment, which can take 1-4 days before it actually credits your checking account.

OP11 months agoYour answer doesn't address my question at all. You're telling me how the process works, not how to mitigate my privacy concerns (or whether that's even possible).
