Pricing/Promo/Offer Strategy
I am conflicted. I have an item for which a reasonable price is $100, and for which I’d want to realize $85 in revenue. I can achieve this with eBay’s basic commission… but I get no clicks!
I can pay 10% to promote my item, and can also make or accept offers… but I would have to increase my price in order to accommodate these - and I am worried that pricing my item at $125 will price me out of the market!
I’d be grateful to learn about pricing strategy, how much value people receive when promoting their items, and if there are best-practices to follow to establish prices promotions, and offers.

Great question - a lot of us have been in the same spot. Here’s a breakdown that might help:
Start with market research
Check sold listings to confirm what similar items actually sold for:
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=[your+item+name]&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1
If the real market price is around $100, listing at $125 could price you out of visibility.
Also, go to your Seller Hub:
https://www.ebay.com/sh/lst/active
Click Research or go directly here:
https://www.ebay.com/sh/research?marketplace=EBAY-US&tabName=SOLD
Now you can use one of eBay’s most powerful tools to track price trends, sell-through rate, shipping averages, and more.
Pricing for promotions and offers
If your goal is to walk away with $85, and you’re using a 10% promoted listing rate, listing it at $100 with promotion turned on might still work. You only pay the fee if the sale happens through a promoted click.
Use Offers to your advantage
Set the Buy It Now at $100, turn on Make Offer, and use auto-accept at $90 and auto-decline below $85. That keeps you visible and gives buyers a little wiggle room to feel like they’re getting a deal.
Check your title and photos
If you’re not getting clicks, price might not be the only reason. Make sure your title uses all 80 characters and includes strong keywords. Clear, well-lit photos also help a lot.
Test a lower ad rate
You don’t have to start with 10%. Try 3 to 5% first and see how your impressions look after a few days. You can always adjust based on performance.
You can also try running a markdown sale, like showing $110 crossed out to $100, to create a sense of discount without raising your base price.
Let the listing build watchers, stay active with adjustments, and give it a little time. eBay tends to reward consistent engagement.
Hope this helps!
