pre-order
Summary: jum-27 purchased a pre-order item on eBay, with an estimated delivery of July 30, but the seller informed them it will ship in September. The seller plans to mark it as 'shipped' now and provide tracking later. jum-27 is concerned about maintaining protection under eBay's policies if the order is marked as shipped prematurely. comics-scifi-collectibles explains that eBay requires pre-orders to ship within 40 days of sale and buyers have 30 days from the last estimated delivery date to file a Not Received case. jum-27 seeks advice on managing the situation to ensure protection.
Hello,
I recently purchased a pre-order item on eBay. The listing currently shows an estimated delivery date of July 30, but the seller informed me that the item will not actually ship until September, as it is a pre-order.
The seller told me they plan to mark the order as "shipped" now and provide the tracking number later when they receive it from Hasbro. They also told me to ignore the estimated delivery date.
Before agreeing to this arrangement, I would like to confirm:
Will my purchase still be fully protected under eBay Money Back Guarantee if the seller marks the item as shipped before it is actually dispatched?
Will my buyer protection or my ability to open an Item Not Received case be affected by this?
Is this procedure allowed under eBay's policies for pre-order items?
Thank you for your assistance.

Mentor2 weeks ago@jum-27 Sellers are required by eBay to ship pre-order items by the Last estimated delivery date stated on the listing, NOT in the sellers description.
You have ONLY 30 days from the last estimated delivery date to file an eBay not received refund request case. This time limit can NOT be extended. You may have longer protection through your credit card or if you use PayPal at checkout they allow up to 180 days from the date of sale.
Per eBay Pre-order policy sellers are required to ship within 40 days of the date of sale. The delivery can only be delayed that long if they change the handling time to 40 days when creating the listing.

OP2 weeks agoSo, in reality, I know that I will not be able to receive the item within the next 30 days. My understanding is that the item will not be shipped until around the end of September at the earliest.
Could you please let me know how you think I should handle this situation? I would really appreciate your advice on how we can make sure both of us are protected throughout the pre-order process.

Mentor2 weeks ago@jum-27 I personally would not buy a pre-order item. IF i were to go against my common sense I would use a credit card or PayPal at checkout that is funded with a credit card. That way you at least have some back up protection... still risky though.
Inform the seller that they are violating eBay's presale policy and ask to cancel the order, that's the safest thing.
