Pre Authorization Holds on Bank Accounts by eBay
At times people will see a pre authorization charge on their bank account if a debit card is used and a separate debit for payment with the pre authorization charge remaining afterwords. eBay does not remove these pre authorization holds and lets them expire on their own by whatever your bank policy is. Normally it reflects the available balance and not the current balance, so overdraft charges should not occur. If you have $2,000 in the bank and purchase something for $1,000, you could have a hold on the remaining $1,000 and not have access to it until the hold expires by the bank.
You would think eBay could just debit the account instead of using a pre authorization hold in addition to the actual debit.
