Posting multiple auctions and cancelling
I bidded on and won two same items from the same seller on same day. The first one was won at $108 and the second one at $124.55.
Before making a bid, I asked the seller whether he really had the two pairs and did not receive a reply. As suspected, after I won both, the seller simply cancelled the cheaper auction saying that he's out of stock. I think he should have cancelled the second auction.
So, theoretically, sellers can post multiple auctions for one item until it reaches the price he/she likes and cancel the rest. Why would eBay allow this?

OP3 years agoThank you. This is very helpful. The seller cancelled the auction stating that the item was either defective or out of stock.
I will report him to ebay right now.

Mentor3 years agoWell at least they selected the correct reason on the Cancellation. Ebay doesn't have much of a tolerance for sellers that cancel transactions for the reason they selected. The seller will get a defect in their selling stats. It will only take them doing this a handful of times and Ebay will sanction them.

Mentor3 years agoNO, sellers are NOT suppose to do that ever. Below is a link so you can report them. It is important to report them so that Ebay knows they have done this to you.

But before you report them. You would have gotten an email from Ebay regarding the cancellation of the one auction. In that email it tells you the reason for the cancellation. If the seller said it was because the buyer asked for the cancellation, that is wrong of course and they did that to avoid getting a defect on their stats for Ebay. This is very important. If the seller did this, make sure you report them for this too as it is VERY important for Ebay to know that.
If you would feel better contacting Ebay to file your complaint, here is the info for you. Please know most sellers would not act like this and I'm very sorry you ran across one that did.
