postage due
During the last week I have had four packages arrive with postage due. They are all from booksellers on Ebay, and are vendors I have used before with no problems. The packaging is the same as it always has been. I have taken photos of the packages and amounts due and passed them on to the sellers. This problem seems to be confined to booksellers; I ordered an item of clothing and it was delivered with no issues.
First off, has anyone else had this problem? It seems odd that it is happening to several different booksellers all at once. Also, seller responses are mixed. One has provided a refund for the postage, one has not contacted me yet, and the third has replied saying that they are just the shipping company and don't have access to refunds. It seems odd that, when I go through the process for contacting the actual seller, I'm just getting the shipping company, and all they are doing is telling me to take it up with Ebay. Can anyone help me figure out what is going on here?

Mentor6 months ago@edinbourgeoise. It sounds like the sellers had flat rate shipping on their listings and didn't revise the listings when postage prices went up mid January.
Postage due is the only reason that you can refuse the package and still be covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee.. You file a not received refund request and provide a photo of the postage due receipt. Once you pay it yourself eBay can't make the seller issue a partial refund.

OP6 months agoOK, but three different companies all having this same problem at the same time seems like a stretch. I also note that I placed three book orders between January 20 and Feb. 1 with one of these same sellers and had no problems with postage due then, so I can't see why a rise in postage in mid-January has suddenly become a problem now.
It also leaves open the question of why, when I tried to contact one seller in the usual manner, I got the shipping company instead. I understand that the shipping company may not be able to organize a refund themselves, but why am I being directed to them instead of the actual seller? I also question how it is that a shipping company would not know about a rate increase. They have one job. This is all quite strange.

Many large book sellers use a flat rate shipping cost which they need to adjust manually.
Media Mail is the one service that USPS can't bill the sellers eBay account.
You can refuse the package as I mentioned.
