Post-sale message from a watcher who DID NOT win the auction FRAUD

I just sold a camera to a buyer. As I was packing it up I received a message from a different Ebay member who claimed to be the person who purchased the camera. He said he needed to give me a new shipping address and attached an image with his contact info.

Obviously I have no intention to ship it to this new address as it's obviously fraudulent. But, it is scary that Ebay would allow messages to be sent to me AFTER the sale had already been made.

Also, strangely, the message he sent me was formatted in such a way as to give the appearance that I had been the one to send the note about the change of address..

Any user can send a message to any other user. And any user can see when a seller sells an item.

Sellers should always be wary of any user that wants the seller to violate policy, whether that means sharing contact information prior to a transaction, using unapproved payment methods, or changing a shipping address after payment has been received.

Scammers often send fake messages or emails of one kind or another that can trip up an unwary user. Scammers will even copy the format and text of actual eBay messages in an email and include fake links to direct users to another site where a fraudulent transaction can take place or where credentials or financial information can be harvested.
